Landmarks and History of Lopar
On the territory of Lopar, there are traces of settlement that go back in history all the way to the New Stone Age. This settlement lasted through the Stone Age, Copper and Bronze Age until 4th century AD when, on the same location, an ancient Greek military fort was built. When it comes to inhabitants, St. Marin is the most important historical figure of Lopar and the whole island of Rab. He was a stonemason and is known for founding the first republic in the world called San Marino. Saint Marin's image is located on the emblem of the town of Lopar.

If you wish to travel to Lopar, you should know some facts about the whole island of Rab. It is located in Primorsko Goranska County, in the Kvarner bay, on the North side of the Adriatic Sea, right next to island Krk and Cres. It is 22km long and it has 8 settlements: town Rab, Lopar, Banjol, Barbat, Kampor, Mundanije, Palit and Supetarska Draga. According to the census of 2011, the island of Rab has less than 9000 inhabitants. Among historical figures, the most noteworthy is Ivan Krstitelj Rabljanin (c. 1470. – 1540.) who was a bronze caster, technologist and artist. Although Rab is one of the smaller islands on the Adriatic, it is extremely popular for its tourist attractions, sights, landmarks and preserved nature.
